I have very few things that are truly in mint condition, but this is one. The corners aren’t frayed, the warranty card isn’t bent, it’s just great. I’m not sure how old it is. I’m guessing 1950s or early 1960s from the designs on the front cover and the font choices. I like the little stick figure at the top of the inside pages. I sold it for $10 at a garage sale.

  1. And knowing how they built things back then, if that lawn mower is still around, it probably still works! I’ve actually found lawn mowers today very reliable, sitting all winter and still starting. Biggest change is probably the auto shutoff, I remember when that came out.

That was neat to see. Reminds me that I need to mow my grass again soon.

  3. “April showers brings May flowers” but it also brings longer grass and more mowing … enjoy!

I inherited this lawn mower from my father. It works beautifully and I still use it for my small lawn. I would love to find an owners manual for it or at least be able to copy it. If you have any information let me know.

  5. I sold mine at a garage sale last fall, but I see them on ebay, so keep your eye out there.

My Lawn Boy is several yaers old and has started an anoying problem. The mower starts easily and after a warm-up it cycles from high speed to almost stalling then back to high speed then back to almost stalling. It does this continuously, but improves when under load (cutting grass). Any ideas?

  7. Paul, Sounds like a carburetor/choke problem. Try rebuilding it. It should be pretty easy and relatively cheap.

do you know where I could obtain a replacement engine for my 1957 lawn-boy? Anyone seen one on E-Bay?
