Peter Pan Records BR 504. Not BR 549. (That’s a Hee-Haw reference for you sophisticated types.) This album “Book and Record” has Peter Pan, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and The Gingerbread Man. Peter Pan Records was a sort of Disney rip-off. Of course, Disney was just a rip-off of classic fairy tales, albeit with a lot of imagination and originality. My kids aren’t too keen on this album. But, at least the cover is cool. If you are a collector, let me know and I’ll make you a deal and sell this thing.

Here’s a few pictures sent to me by Katie McCardle. Same cover, same record number, but different illustrations. How odd is that? (hers is not for sale)

I’ve never seen or heard this one before. I do like the cover.

Just read your description on the album and felt I had to make one small correction. First off, Peter Pan Records was definitely not a Disney rip-off; the company was established years before Disney released its version of “Peter Pan” in 1953.
There is, however, a Disney connection. George Peed, who illustrated the cover and many others for Peter Pan Records, was a Disney animator before relocating to New Jersey after fighting WWII. His brother, Bill Peet (he changed his last name), was also a Disney animator and wrote several children’s books.

I have this same album from my childhood and now listen to it with my son. My cover is the same as yours, but my inside illustrations are different (more cartoon like). It says the illustrations on mine are by Peter Cross.

  4. Katie, that’s pretty interesting. I’m surprised there are versions with different illustrations. I’d like to see those.
