The Son Messengers, This is the Dawning, Pinebrook PB 1540, 1970s.

The Son Messengers were located in El Dorado (pronounced el dore-RAY-doe), KS. My mom lived there for a time, and so did on of my sisters with her kids.

Since I’m from Kansas, I decided to try and contact anyone from the group for some background. The family was involved with Gospel music for several years. I did manage to locate Lynn McBride, and he is currently working with a prison ministry. Very, very, good work for a Christian to be involved with. Here’s his response to my request for any information:

Thanks for your interest.

That album was made over 30 years ago and about the worst project we have ever done.

Since then, the group is not performing, as my wife and I are around 70 years old.

We later recorded several other projects and for a time I traveled with the Calvary Echoes Quartet.

At the time of that recording, we were traveling with the Christian Motorcyclists Association and it was produced at Bill Gaither’s studio in Anderson Indiana. We lived in El Dorado, Kansas.

So, to answer your question, whatever you think best. We do not have any copies or upgraded cd’s.

Lynn McBride

Well, he isn’t too impressed with the music, but the cover is just fantastic. Thanks Mr. McBride!

It’s very cool to encounter folks in this way. It’s one of the best things about the internet.
Love the pics. I used to have a reel to reel deck with all the Moody Blues stuff on 7″ reels. It was too cool.

Sorry, this isn’t about your post, but about Letterboxd. As you know I was able to get in and get going. Unless I’m missing something, though, there’s no way to message you in Letterboxd, which frankly surprises me seeing how it’s marketed as a social network of sorts.

I wanted to say thanks. I went through and rated a bunch of movies from a big list. So far I have to say I’ve changed my mind back and now think again that they are still in Beta. The UI needs some serious improvement (i.e. 3 separate clicks AND a new page to be launched before being able to rate a film; having to type in names of films one at a time to rate them unless you can find a user-created list that contains all the ones you want like the 1,001 Movies list I found). It’s got some good things about it, too, though. I don’t want you to think I’m ungrateful.

  3. Chip, I agree that Letterobxd needs work. However, you can rate a movie by hovering over the cover and then use the right hand icon that shows up on the cover. The film look-up is annoying, you can’t look it up by actor or director and there are several films missing from the database. They do need to get internal communications among members better, I would think that would be one major advantage of a system like that. I’ll probably stick with it for a while and see how it goes. Thanks for letting me know how it’s going.
