Tennessee Ernie Ford – Nearer The Cross EP
Tennessee Ernie Ford, “Nearer The Cross” Capitol EAP2-1005, 1958. Part 2 of a 3 part album. Cardboard-cover picture-sleeve.
Mr. Ford was a very sincere and devout man. “All the masses of Atomic and Hydrogen Energy, Missiles and Satellites and Rockets are but a puff of wind when compared to the power of these prayerful lyrics.” Sounds kinda silly today to a lot of people, but this was his deep conviction. No ironic posing, no detached smirk, but a strong faith that there is more to this world than what we see. I respect that and I believe that.
Here are few others I like. “Wayfaring Stranger” is one of my all time favorites, especially the Maria McKee version, it knocks me out.

I have Part 1 and 3 of the EAP- -1005 series. I have Part 2 in the 2-756 series. Do you know if the 756 series preceeded the 1005? If not, where would I go to find out?
Many thanks,
Sharon
Sharon, according to the Goldmine Standard Catalog Of American Records, 1950-1975 the 2-756 series came out in 1956, the 1005 series in 1958.
So would you recommend I sell them as a set or wait to get the matching 2-1005?
Thanks,
Sharon
I really don’t know, the one I have was my dad’s. The book lists them separate. I’d sell the 1005′s as a set and the 756 individually. If you want my part 2 that you don’t have, I’d sell it for $5 plus $3 shipping. Then you’d have a complete set.
