In 1958, Ted Gradstedt Presents his Nite Club Tour on the Hawaiian Island of Waikiki. The bottom pic is cardstock and one sided that was inside the folded brochure. I don’t know, but it seems $12 is pretty steep, but then I don’t do many night clubs. This covers Don the Beachcomber from yesterday’s post, Oasis, and either The Hawaiian Village (Henry J. Kaiser’s (of the Kaiser automobile) famous supper club) or the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

This might be some info on Ted, and if so he may be related to early film actress Greta Gradstedt. They both had the same parents in Kansas.

How fantastic would it be to do a night club tour in Hawaii in 1958? Perhaps Martin Denny or Les Baxter would be playing at one of the clubs. Man…

Wow…this is great. “Unescorted men and women.” Hawaii must have been a singles’ mecca then. I agree $12 is pretty steep in 1958. Today too:)

No, no, no…Waikiki is not an island. The island is Oahu which is part of the state of Hawaii. Waikiki is a town next to Honolulu.

It’s amazing how un-Polynesian this brochure is. The guy really didn’t capture the feeling of the night ahead. It’s so dry and stiff. Nothing like the tropical evening the visitors would experience.

  3. Tattered and Lost, thanks for clearing that up about Waikiki. This Kansas boy hasn’t been west of Arizona and all I know about Hawaii is from the old Hawaii 5-0 show and some Elvis movie. Seriously though, Hawaii is one place I really, really want to visit.
