<div>A poster my Dad has displayed for YEARS. &#8220;Before you marry, Give a thought to your health. Your doctor&#8217;s advice is valuable.&#8221; 1939. I don&#8217;t put too much stock in doctors. It seems to me that if they can&#8217;t diagnose it in two minutes, they aren&#8217;t too interested in investing any more time or effort into it. Sorry the poster is so dark, it&#8217;s in the bathroom and my camera doesn&#8217;t take dark rooms very well. Even light rooms are a challenge.</div>

<div>In the olden days, when cars had hood ornaments, when you drove across the desert in the western United States, you could keep your water cool. You would fill this bag with water, soak the outside of the bag and hang it on the front of your car. The evaporation and wind would keep the water cool. Very clever idea. This was hanging in my grandfather&#8217;s garage. He kindly let me have it to hang in my garage.</div>

In Manitou Springs, Colorado there is a place called the <em>Penny Arcade</em>. It is a retro game player&#8217;s heaven. Every vintage machine costs what it originally cost to play. So if a pinball machine cost ten cents for 5 balls when it was new, that&#8217;s what it costs today. How fun to play games with bells instead of beeps.
</div>
<p>
<div>There are peep shows (such as the &#8220;Have a Look at the Sultan&#8217;s Harem&#8221;) that are nothing today but back when you would never see a woman in her slip, it was probably pretty exciting. You see racier stuff today in a razor commercial.
</div>
<p>
<div>The Captain Fantastic Elton John pinball machine I remember quite well. My grandmother had one in her country store / gas station.

<p>
<div><em>Horses-Mules Power-Profit</em>. The Horse Association of America, Union Stock Yards, Chicago, Illinois. This one is a little outside my normal topic and date range, but hey, I own it so I might as well post it. The oddest things can bring in the most traffic. This little booklet appears to be from the 1920s or 1930s, possibly even the 1910s. I&#8217;m guessing it was an attempt to keep equine power in view when tractors were taking over. Obviously, it&#8217;s from a different time than now. Natural fertilizer, small non-corporate farms, fresh air (see: natural fertilizer) ah, the ideal life. Only, we know it wasn&#8217;t ideal because so many people got out of it as soon as they could.</div>
