Stars of the Grand Ole Opry 1926-1974 RCA CLP2-0466. 1974. The Grand Ole Opry with just about every main artist of the time covered. From Uncle Dave Macon, Pee Wee King, Bill Monroe (the father of Bluegrass music), Minnie Pearl (who many will remember from Hee-Haw), Eddy Arnold, Lester Flatt (who started with Bill Monroe before becoming part of Flatt & Scruggs), Lonzo and Oscar (?), Chet Atkins (country’s guitar king), Hank Snow, The Carter Family, Del Wood, Martha Carson, Johnnie and Jack, Grandpa Jones (also from Hee-Haw), Kitty Wells (who was the “Queen of Country Music” until Patsy Cline took over), Jim Reeves, Porter Wagoner, Don Gibson, Archie Campbell, Skeeter Davis, George Hamilton IV, Hank Locklin, Sonny James, Jim Ed Brown, The Browns, Dottie West, Bobby Bare (he was part of the “outlaw country”), Connie Smith, Dolly Parton, and Jeanne Pruett.
Ray Charles used to stay up late and listen to the Opry. He was a huge country music fan. Johnny Cash got kicked out for kicking out the footlights.
