New Netflix Instant Streaming for March 3, 2012
Sorry for no posts this week, been out of power for a couple days as we had some kind of wind storm. When the wind becomes louder and louder and then becomes a roar and your ears start popping like you’re on an airplane, it’s almost too late to take cover because that’s almost the same instant you hear the shed in the backyard go flying. We lost a shed and most of our fence, but the real bummer is our giant old oak tree went down. It was much older than the house. Maybe we’ll get an age on it as we cut it up. But, the family is fine and the house is fine, so even though I’m a little sore from lots of cleaning up, we are very grateful to the Almighty.
Quite a selection of old movies this time and a few documentaries that I think will appeal to retro fans. Quite a variety.
- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978)
- How to Frame a Figg (1971) Don Knotts
- The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) David Bowie
- They Might Be Giants (1971) George C. Scott plays Sherlock Holmes. Actually, he plays a man who believes he is Sherlock Holmes.
- Year of the Horse: Neil Young & Crazy Horse Live (1997) but footage shot in 1976 and 1986. Jim Jarmusch directs.
- Ran (1985) Akira Kurosawa does King Lear Japanese style.
- The Wraith (1986) Someone comes back from the dead to kill drag racers? Charlie Sheen is in it.
- Paradise Alley (1978) Stalone.
- Concorde Affair (1979) Van Johnson, Mimsy Farmer and Joseph Cotten in a version of Airport meets Lost.
- The Sci-Fi Boys (2006) Documentary on Sci-Fi and special effects.
- Hollywood Treasure (2010) This is a TV show that looks like it might be of interest to some fellow Retro Hounds and lovers of old Hollywood.
- Godzilla vs. Monster Zero (1965) Now you KNOW you want to queue this one right up!
- Lassie (1954) The classic TV show.
- The Girl from Petrovka (1974) Goldie Hawn, Hal Holbrook, and Anthony Hopkins in a Cold War love flick.
- Checkered Flag or Crash (1977) Joe Don Baker, Susan Sarandon, Larry Hagman, and Parnelli Jones.
- September 30, 1955 (1977) Richard Thomas idolizes James Dean.
- W.C. Fields and Me (1976) Rod Steiger, Valerie Perrine, and Bernadette Peters in a movie directed by Arthur Hiller. Sounds like a great crew, but the average rating is only 2 stars.
- Walk Proud (1979) Robbie Benson plays a Chicano that falls in love with a rich girl. I liked it a lot when I saw it on HBO in 1980 or so and am looking forward to seeing this one again. Another Robbie Benson movie I’d like find is Die Laughing.
- Company of Killers (1971) Van Johnson, Ray Milland, Clu Galager, Susan Oliver, and John Saxon.

Glad you all are safe. These wind storms have sure been terrible this year with much loss of life. Hope no valuables were in the shed. But these events make you realize what’s irreplaceable and what’s just stuff.
Bunchie´s last [type] ..When America Had Her Ears On: Smokey and the Bandit (1977)****
Thanks Bunchie. It was just some stuff that got damaged and the insurance covered it pretty well except for the tree. Here in town there were no major injuries, the Eastern parts of the country weren’t so lucky.
