Good night what a selection this time! We have many silent films and early talkies, several documentaries, some good 1980s Hollywood, a couple Japanese films, and a whole slew of B-movies!

Remember, I do up to 1990 except for documentaries that fit the retro theme. Be sure to check out for newer stuff, but they are always a day or two behind me getting this out.

Silents and Classics:

  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) John Hughes, probably his only movie I don’t really care for.

Bob from Holland recommended the Fantomas series a while ago, this is a good opportunity to give it a try, although I’m not crazy about silents in general.

I reviewed Harikari last year. It has a clever plot twist and is pretty good for samurai fare. A little long.

The exploitation stuff looks really cool, and I will be checking out Only the Strong Survive for sure. I love the soul music of that era.

  3. Bunchie, I’m not much on silents other than the comedies. I knew I’d read about Harikari somewhere!

Carol and Bunchie, I have a conflicted attitude toward the exploitation films. I like one every now and again, but on the whole they can be pretty gruesome. Still, they do have a certain attraction.
