New Netflix Instant Streaming for December 3, 2012

This is a sort of addendum to the list I posted on Saturday. There are some more from Classic Hollywood as well as several popular 1970s and 1980s movies.

  • Apocalypse Now (1979) I had this on on my list back in June, and here it is again.
  • Batman: The Movie (1966) YES! The Adam West Batman in a movie with Catwoman (Lee Meriwether), Penguin, Riddler, and Joker. This movie really drags in the third act, but it’s pretty fun to watch.
  • Biloxi Blues (1988) Mike Nichols directs Matthew Broderick in a Neil Simon comedy.
  • Black Widow (1987) Debra Winger and Theresa Russell in a mystery.
  • Commando (1985) Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, and Dan Hedaya. This was the first movie where it began to bother me that hundreds of guys were being mowed down with no consideration to their families or anything. And yes, I was in the Army at the time.
  • Double Indemnity (1944) Oh YES!!!! What a great film! Barbara Stanwyck smolders in this Billy Wilder film and turns Fred MacMurray into putty in her hands. Can’t wait to see this again.
  • The Escape Artist (1982) “A minor league Houdini-esque escape artist, teenager Danny Masters (Griffin O’Neal) boasts to local cops that he can free himself from prison within one hour. Childhood flashbacks reveal Danny’s family history — he had an aunt and uncle who were escape artists in vaudeville — and that the boy might just have the stuff to pull off the stunt. Desi Arnaz and Raul Julia co-star as a corrupt mayor and his troubled son. Caleb Deschanel directs.”
  • Force 10 from Navarone (1978) Haven’t seen this one. Has the Mighty Robert Shaw, Harrison Ford, Barbara Bach, and Carl Weathers. I bet my kids will like it, they like The Guns of Navarone.
  • Hammett (1982) Another one that I just listed this year. It went off and now it’s back. I’m glad cause I didn’t get around to watching it last time.
  • The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) This Hammer Studios version stars Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes. Christopher Lee is also in it.
  • McLintock! (1963) My favorite John Wayne.
  • Monkey Business (1953) Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers, Charles Coburn, and Marilyn Monroe, directed by Howard Hawks. Marilyn has a pretty minor part, but is pretty funny. This is an outlandish movie with really broad humor if that’s your thing. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
  • My Mom’s a Werewolf (1989) It has John Saxon.
  • The Octagon (1980) Chuck Norris and Lee Van Cleef.
  • People Will Talk (1953) Carry Grant and Jeanne Crain in a film directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. A mild mannered college prof falls for an unwed pregnant lady.
  • The Presidio (1988) Sean Connery, Mark Harmon, Meg Ryan, and Jack Warden. Miltary murder mystery.
  • Red Dawn (1984) Kids fight commies. Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey, and Harry Dean Stanton.
  • Santee (1973) Glenn Ford is a bounty hunter.
  • The Last of the Mohicans (1992) This one falls just a few years outside of my normal range for highlighting (my normal cutoff is 1990), but it’s such an awesome movie that I wanted to be sure and mention it.

A whole bunch of goodies here! I went to see Batman at the theatre when it first came out. I nagged my mom about it all week, and she finally took me to the Saturday matinee. It costs a dime to get in. When I saw there was no Julie Newmar, I wanted my money back!
