George Jones and a Warning About Buying Albums

George Jones 105
George Jones 106

George Jones and the Jones Boys, New Country Hits, Musicor MM2060. 1965. You can see from this cover why George Jones is called “The Possum.” I bought this record at a garage sale, the cover is Very Good+ with just a few marks on the corners. The album inside is NM. The only problem (and my warning) is that the album inside is A King and Two Queens, United Artists UAS-6367. 1964. George Jones, Melba Montgomery, and Judy Lynn each sing a few songs, no duets. It sounds very clear, but isn’t what I wanted.

I seem to remember A King and Two Queens album cover at the sale, so I went back – hoping against hope that the records had been switched. However, when I went back, they only had a couple albums, the rest were gone. No way to track them down. This also happened with another album recently, I bought Country Hymns, and got Glenn Campbell inside. What a downer.

If anyone wants to buy this album, I’ll throw in the cover, or visa versa.

    Hi,

I picked up what appears to be a mono DJ copy of this exact same album at a yard sale this morning. I checked the actual vinyl inside, and it is indeed this album. Your cover is much nicer than this one, as yours lacks a huge red ‘D.J.’ stamp on its back.

I’m just planning to convert the tracks to digital and I don’t have much invested in the record, so if you’re interested in getting the correct vinyl to go with your cover, let me know. Maybe we can trade albums or something.

    Cheers from Richmond, VA,

    Ryan

  2. I’m very open to any kind of trade. Although I’m really trying to thin the herd at this point. I can send you my cover, buy you may want to find out if DJ copies of this album are worth more. They usually aren’t, but there are exceptions. email me at mrpontiac at yahoo dot com.

  1. [...] This looks like a great collection of songs for those of us who love Southern Gospel and hymns. However, when I got this album home, and tried to play it, it was Glenn Campell on the inside! I was soooooo disappointed. ALWAYS check the vinyl, not just for condition, but to be sure it’s the right LP for the cover. This isn’t the first time I’ve done this. [...]
