Christmas with the Imperials, Word Records DST-4020, 1980. The Imperials are a Gospel quartet and one of the tops in that genre. What I find interesting about this album cover is the backside. This picture of exposing the set-up seems very postmodern to me. Revealing the meta-narrative or deconstructing the illusion. A peeking behind the curtain. Perhaps revealing an affinity to Critical Theory by someone at Word Records? Seems odd that conservative Christians would be so advanced on postmodernity, I mean, this is 1980. I don’t think I heard of postmodernism until 1992, but then, I’m slow on the uptake.
