Chick Comics – The Gift – Crusaders Comics
The Gift, Chick Publications. Jack Chick Comics always have vivid drawings. I used to have a whole bunch of them, but I don’t seem to have them anymore. “The Crusaders” series are a bit unusual in that the pair (I guess they were “the Crusaders”) is one white man and one black man. As progressive as that seems, eventually Chick got on an anti-Catholic stream. Luckily, I had quit reading comics just before that happened. See Jack Chick’s home page or Wikipedia.
Another group is doing a vivid comics of the Bible. Michael and Debbie Pearl at No Greater Joy Ministries are calling it Good and Evil. The Pearls are Fundamentalists, but they aren’t the paranoid variety that Chick is. Chick sees conspiracies everywhere. Makes for great comics.
There is also a book The Unofficial Guide to the Art of Jack T. Chick: Chick Tracts, Crusader Comics, And Battle Cry Newspapers
that is very entertaining and informative. Places Chick in context and points out his “oddities” without really making fun of him. A very hard thing to do.

I’ve never seen these before. Wow! I do remember those little Chick booklets. They would give them to us in the youth group all the time at church. There were many that were quite anti-Catholic. Chick also saw a conspiracy in everything out there.
I have held onto this comic series all these years but am taking it to an antique/art sale tomorrow. They are used, in good to fair condition. Anybody know what their worth?
