Now You Can Follow RetroHound!

I’ve added a Google Friend Connect widget to the top of the right sidebar, so now you can follow just like Blogger/Blogspot blogs. I’d appreciate if a few of you would “Join this site” or “become a member” which is basically following. Even if you’ve got me in your RSS reader. Help me try this thing out. Thanks for your support.

End of Year Re-cap

Well it’s been a good year here, both on the blogging front and the real-life front. How about a summary of the blog? One thing I have discovered is that you NEVER KNOW what is going to be popular. I did a quick, short, post on Les Paul when he died and that has been the most popular post on this blog by far. Some days more people visit that one post than my home page! My grandfather gave me an old desert water bag that I hung in the garage. As a lark I took a picture and posted it. Not only has it been the 4th most popular post, I sold the bag for $40 from the picture! I thought my Grandfather was going to have a heart attack from laughing when I told him. “I think I paid $1.50 for it brand new” he says. It’s now in a museum in California.

The WordPress stats and Google Analytics stats are slightly different, but basically the same. However, I lost Analytics for several days when I did an upgrade and didn’t realize that lost my coding. WP stats aren’t as all-encompassing as Analytics, but are a little more reliable I think. Unfortunately, with WordPress I don’t have “followers” like in Blogger, so I have no idea how many people follow on a regular basis.

My last post was my 600th. I’ve got 862 total comments which doesn’t seem like very many considering that many of those are me responding to others, so I obviously don’t blog for the comments. But I welcome them (insert smiley face here).

I’m always surprised to find hits coming in from new blogs every now and again, and more and more, I’m getting several hits a day coming from Facebook. That’s interesting because I can’t see what was said about the post.

So, for 2010:
Analytics: Total visits, 60,408, pageviews, 93,572 for an average of 1.55 pages per visit. Time spent is 55 seconds.
WP stats says 118,313 pageviews. They don’t have visits.

This here envelope is a Bank-by-mail kit from the Wichita State Bank, 721 West Douglas, Wichita, KS. Member Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. How many of you knew what FDIC stood for? Well they didn’t know back then either, but at least they spelled it out. Wichita’s first “Electronic Bank.” I wonder what that means.

Over 11,000 Views This Month!

Wow! An all time high. My monthly graph looks just like it should, all going up hill. Last month I had 9147 views. This month it jumped to 11,564 (and the day’s not over yet). In January of 2009 I had 535 views. August of 2009, 5677. More than doubled in a year. Thanks everyone and keep spreading to word!

So Cell Phones Aren’t Evil

We don’t have cell phones. I recently told that to someone and she looked at me very oddly and said, “Oh, you’re the one.” As in, the only one left in the civilized world that doesn’t have a mobile communications leash. We do have a TracPhone that we use when we are on the road. And it came in very handy recently. What brought this up is that my father-in-law had a stroke and passed away last week. In the waiting room everyone was calling their families (he has two brothers and two sisters) and keeping them updated on the status. Much better than one phone on the wall for everyone to use with no long distance. Hopefully in a few days I’ll be back to posting.
