Can of McTwo Limonade-Bier (Beer) Mix

001

McTwo is a drink in Germany (at least it was in the 1980s) that is a mix of lemonade and beer. Very refreshing I am sure. Or maybe the mix was a Sprite-like drink. It seems I vaguely recall that “limonade” was the generic for lemon-lime soda. I honestly don’t remember.

Pepsi Bottle Radio from Radio Shack!

019 (Large) 020 (Large) 021 (Large) 022 (Large) 023 (Large) PepsiRadio (1) PepsiRadio (2)

Here’s a Radio Shack Pepsi bottle AM radio that my grandmother bought me when I was collecting pop bottles in the late 1970s, early 1980s. Notice it has two different labels on the different sides. The top clear part is twisted for on/off and volume, and the bottom is twisted for tuning to a station. Believe it or not, I used to get WLS out of Chicago way down in Southeast Kansas with this thing. Only at night. If the weather was clear between Kansas and Lake Michigan. And I was in the attic. OK, that last part isn’t true. WLS is a talk radio station now, but it used to be music. It still works but you have play with the volume a bit. There’s some sort of short there somewhere.

Various Retro Photos Found Around the Web

Back from the dead! At least, that’s how I feel after turning in a stack of paperwork. Got some great stuff planned for this next month, so be sure to follow along!

Here’s some photos I’ve found around that I thought I’d share. Don’t remember where I found most of them, if it was your blog leave a comment and I’ll add you to the post.

I love pop bottles (that’s soda pop bottles for you Easterners) and soda pop advertising, and I love Zorro! How great to find the two together.

Planet of the Apes

Planet of the Apes in a 70s stripped robe. How cool is that?

I love these sew-on/iron-on patch advertisements that used to be in all the comic books.

Dick Clark’s Easygoing Guide to Grooming comes from Awful Library Books.

What young boy of the 70s didn’t love Evel Knievel?

What a perfect picture of Keith Richards. I think I got this at Exquisitely Bored in Nacogdoches.

Don’t remember where I got this Marvel Poster, but it’s pretty cool.

Guys with guns. Robert Culp from Greatest American Hero and Bogart.

I think these Elvis Presley pictures came from Retrospace Zeta.

And finally, this is about as political as I get on this blog. Vote for Batman!

Dr. Swett’s Early American Root Beer Sign

003

I’m not sure about the name Dr. Swett, but I love root beer. This is a metal sign that I suppose you could stick magnets on, or maybe write on it with some kind of white something. The early Dr. Swett’s stuff had “original root beer” as a slogan, but this has “early American root beer” so it’s from the 1940s or 1950s. I’ve also got some bottles that I’ll get around to posting some day. Collectible Soda Pop Memorabilia

1959 Buick on a Coca-Cola Dreamcars Poster from Germany

Coca-Colaposter for 25 Dreamcars aus den “Golden Fifties” that I got in Germany in about 1986 or 1987. The large red car is a 1960 however. A few 1940s cars also, like the Tucker. Somehow one could get stickers to add to the poster. This was in a magazine. Can anyone translate this thing? “Schnibbeln” translates to “whittle?” Not sure what that is supposed to mean in this context. “Sammeln” is to collect. “Tauschen” is to exchange or barter.

Anyone Know what this is? Sunrise Beverages thing

This photo comes to me from Lonnie Ernsting. Does anyone know what this is? It is made of glass and looks to me like someone flattened a glass bottle. They must have been very patient to do it though. What is it worth? Any and all ideas welcome.
