New Netflix Instant Streaming 12-26-11
I’ve got a few retro movies that I’ve been saving to make a full enough list for a post, and I think this is it. Be aware, several movies are going off streaming on New year’s Day, including Arabesque, the Pink Panther cartoons, Diner, The Man Who Knew Too Little, Enter the Dragon and Peter Seller’s The Prisoner of Zenda which is streaming only.
- These Amazing Shadows: The Movies That Make America (2011) A documentary about the National Film Registry and includes commentary from Christopher Nolan, John Waters, Rob Reiner, Debbie Reynolds, Tim Roth and George Takei. I just saw it advertised on PBS today.
- Fawlty Towers (1975-1979) Seasons one and two of this John Cleese sitcom/farce are streaming.
- Alligator (1980) Who doesn’t remember this one? An alligator gets into the sewer and eats genetic experiments tossed into the sewer. Bad things happen. Has Robert Forester and Henry Silva, what more do you need?.
- The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 (2011) A documentary on the Black Power movement.
New Netflix Instant Streaming December 13th, 2011 Christmas Cartoons
A few Christmas cartoons came available this week.
- He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special (1985) – All I know about He Man is that my 9-years-younger-than-me brother traded my Star Wars characters for He Man figures while I was in the Army.
- Fat Albert’s Christmas Special (1982) – Hey hey hey!
- Mr Magoo’s Christmas Carol (1962) – I never really got Mr. Magoo. I think he’s rather frustrating.
New Netflix Instant for December 8th, 2011
Only a few Jerry Lewis movies today.
- The Geisha Boy (1958) Instant only.
- The Nutty Professor (1963) His most famous has him as a Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde only he becomes a chick magnet instead of a killer. With Stella Stevens.
- The Bellboy (1960) His directorial debut.
- The Errand Boy (1961) Spying on people at a movie lot.
- The Ladies Man (1961) Jerry Lewis stuck in a mansion filled with beautiful women. Instant only.
- It’s Only Money (1962) My favorite Lewis, but I haven’t seen it in a LONG time. It’s a comedy-mystery which is one of my favorite types of movies. Definitely have to watch it again.
New Netflix Instant Streaming for December 1st, 2011
Already, after just doing one yesterday, there’s a few more streaming titles to highlight. Usually, most titles come out on Tuesday. However, there are two Jim Henson Christmas shows so I thought I’d go ahead and get this out.
- The Christmas Toy (1986) A Jim Henson Christmas show. I’ve never seen it, but Henson is the master of the Muppets, so I figured it’s worth noting. Instant only.
- Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas (1977) This one is probably better since it’s from the 70s. Another Jim Henson and has the help of Frank Oz. A great choice to watch with the kids. Instant only.
- One from the Heart (1982) Now for something completely different, Francis Ford Coppola’s downer of a movie. Don’t watch if you’re prone to depression during the holidays. If you get the winter blues, sick with the Jug-Band.
- Blue Sunshine (1978) Not into depressing without some gore? How about a movie about ex-hippies that took acid years ago that is now turning them into balding killers.
- Magic Trip (2011) Speaking of acid, this is a documentary about the Ken Kesey/Merry Pranksters trip across the U.S. in a bus called Further. Stanley Tucci (I assume he narrates), Timothy Leary, Jack Kerouac, Ken Kesey, Allen Ginsberg, Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead, Neal Cassady, Ken Babbs, and Ram Dass. The book about the trip was called the The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test
written by Tom Wolfe. I’m really looking forward to watching this one.
- Bond Girls Are Forever (2002) It’s about Bond girls, what more needs to be said? Instant only.
New Netflix Instant for Nov 30th, 2011
Lots of movies from the 1980s this week, and surprising given the holiday season, lots of horror films. I can’t really comment on them as I haven’t seen very many.
- Heathers (1989) Heathers was pretty ground-breaking in it’s day, and sometimes someone who watches it this many years later won’t recognize that fact because so much of it has become cliche. Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.
- Scarface (1983) The Classic with Al Pacino directed by Brian De Palma. “Say hello to my little friend!” Now on Blu-ray for only 12.99!
- Life After Django Reinhardt (2010) is a new documentary, but about an old guitarist. If you love guitar, you need to check it out. Instant only.
- Reel Injun (2009) Another new documentary about how Indians aka Native Americans have been treated in Hollywood. Guess what, sometimes Hollywood is inaccurate.
- Stephen King’s Children of the Corn (1984)
- C.H.U.D. (1984) Homeless people become “Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers” – C.H.U.D.
- House (1986) It’s got Richard Moll.
- House II: The Second Story (1987) Clever name, but I bet that’s about all that is.
- Creepshow 2 (1987) George Kennedy? Dorothy Lamour? Are you kidding me?
- Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) A classic! of sorts.
- Dead Heat (1988) Treat Williams, Joe Piscopo, Darren McGavin, and Vincent Price. Don’t expect too much.
- Return to Horror High (1987) George Clooney and Maureen McCormick.
- The Vineyard (1989) James Hong (you’ll definitely know him when you see him, even my kids name him when we’re watching an old TV show, and he’s a guest star in EVERY old TV show) and a magic potion. Instant only.
Grease Fotonovel – Full Color Pictures of the Movie
Grease by Allan Carr based on the screenplay by Bronte Woodward based on the musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. “Over 350 color pictures from the hit movie!” “For the first time, take the movie home with you!” What, no Blu-ray? I may have underpriced mine. I’ve got it at the flea market for something like $8.95, but it’s between $19.99 and $50 online.
