This is more of a genealogy post. I’ve got these two school certificates from Crawford County, Kansas. I am most happy to send these to any decendents of any of the people named on the certificates.

The first one is for Della Majors for 6th grade in Pittsburg Public School. She was “neither absent nor tardy” for the whole year! Signed by Anna R. Brown, Principal, Gertrude Alexander, Teacher, John F. Bender?, Superintendent. May 27th, 1921.

The second one, filled out by a calligrapher, belongs to George Mertz, school district no. 39, Girard, Crawford County, Kansas, for “punctual and regular attendance.” Signed by Emma Malloy, Teacher, and J. W. Miley, County Superintendent. May 17th, 1912. Produced by Crane & Co., Topeka, Kansas. The back side has the names Frank Murtz (different spelling than Mertz) and Square Mold Selcer? I could be wrong about that last one. Perhaps it’s the dad’s name and occupation. There was a lot of mining around Southeast Kansas at this time.
