1970s Remote-Control Flower-Power Wheelie Dune-Buggy
This Remco “Beachcomber” Dune Buggy Wheelies Pick-Up motorized with corded remote control was at my grandparents house for me to play with whenever I visited. A few years ago Grandma gave it to me. I’m glad she did because she has a bad habit of throwing stuff out. I never did like the “flower power” aspect to this toy, but I sure loved playing with it. It turns, goes forward and backward, sports a surf board, has authentic “mod” dune buggy styling, and best of all, it does wheelies. The box says 1971, but the car says 1970.

Wow! This buggy is totally cool!! My 2 year old son would love this!! I drive a Nissan Cube in a similar shade of blue and any toy that’s square and blue he goes crazy about!!
I love all of your retro stuff…I remember having these great toys, back when toys were still cool! Love this buggy, perfect for Barbie and Ken.
didnt they make a different one also, such as a dune buggy and not a truck type? i want to buy the dune buggy type, i remember(vagely) playing with one as a kid! lots of memories with it.
I don’t think Remco made any other one, but perhaps someone did.
Blast from the past and so on and so forth. You probably got bored of playing this after a short while right. I also had some kind of toy like this like the long wired but it was of a military airplay that could supposedly fly or at least I thought it could, I tried it by pressing the button it made a sound of lift-off and I was filled with excitement but then of course after waiting some time didn’t work, oh well
. Anyway interesting post, take care.
Jett´s last [type] ..Flower Names
Yes, they did make a classic dune buggy body version. My little brother had one. That’s the one I want too.
they made a white van with a red surfboard too…
Dave, really? I had no idea, I’ve never seen one that color.
I have my origional which has white body and surf board with green body and red bottom with a large controler with 3-D batteries. Wondering what the value is. Any idea?
Gary you have pictures of it, does it still work? If its the dunebuggy one, I’ll give you $$ for it. I don’t care if It’s worth 10dollars, I got a number in my head that it’s worth to me for sentimental reasons.
I had one of these back in 1970.
In case anyone is interested, the mechanism for performing the
wheelies was a large ball bearing inside the “surfboard” which
would roll backward when the car accelerated quickly forward,
causing the car to tip up onto its rear wheels.
I found this out empirically after I, uh, had grown tired of the toy.
Oh Mike, I knew that cause you can always hear it rolling around in there.
i came across one of these myself its green and still in the box.
Tanya, I’d love to see some pictures of it.
